Surprise Me : Automatically Refresh Chromebook Wallpaper

As explained in this article, you can easily change the default wallpaper of Chromebooks and set any image as your wallpaper. You can also try out our cool tools to automatically change your ChromeOS wallpaper. But there is more to tell.

The built-in wallpaper selection app of ChromeOS  has a “Surprise Me” option which is disabled by default. Check this option, as shown in the following screenshot, and you would be surprised by getting a new wallpaper on regular interval. When you turn on this setting, it would automagically set a random high resolution wallpaper on every boot.

Chromebooks and other ChromeOS devices don’t have a real desktop like Windows, where you can put shortcuts to favorite apps or save important files, and this is intentional.

Thankfully, there is option for customizing the default wallpaper. You can access the above wallpaper picker app by right clicking anywhere on the desktop and then selecting “Set Wallpaper”, or by visiting Settings > Appearance > Set wallpaper.

How do I find out where the surprise me pictures were taken. Love the pics but end up studying them trying to figure where they were taken.

  2. Arpit says:

@Bill Wood: there seems no way to find out :(

Does it pick from every wallpaper available on the computer, or does it pick from whatever sub tab you have seleced?

  4. Arpit says:

@Trey: I believe that it automagically selects wallpaper without considering the selected sub tab.

Can we enable “Surprise Me” but only for our custom wallpapers? I have put time into creating several custom wallpapers, and I love randomly seeing every one from time to time, but there are so many landscape pictures that I can’t care less about, and have to go out of my way to change the wallpaper every time one shows up.

Is there a way to select which ones can appear in the surprise me funtion?
